Linares, April 21, 2026
Dear Parents and Guardians:
We are writing to inform you of an incident that occurred earlier today at our school. A threatening message was discovered in one of the school restrooms. The administration responded promptly by gathering information about the incident and reporting it to the relevant authorities, including the Carabineros de Chile.
After thoroughly reviewing the available information, we have determined that academic activities will continue as usual. We want to emphasize that this decision is the result of a responsible assessment and is part of our ongoing commitment to the safety of everyone in this school community.
In order to address the issue comprehensively, the school has implemented the following set of measures:
- Coordination with the Chilean National Police to conduct preventive patrols, which will help secure the school’s outer perimeter.
- Increased supervision during recess and breaks throughout the school day, especially in restrooms and common areas.
- Timely restoration of the renovated space, recognizing that taking care of shared areas is a responsibility that falls to all of us who are part of the school.
- Expanding social-emotional learning at all grade levels, addressing topics such as assertive communication, peaceful conflict resolution, and strengthening students’ connection to the school.
- Development of training sessions for classes that use the affected restroom, led by homeroom teachers, with the aim of reflecting on the impact of damage to common areas, the scope of threats made against the school community, and their repercussions on school life.
- Analysis of security records and background checks to determine who is responsible for the incidents, which may result in the initiation of appropriate disciplinary proceedings.
Situations like this challenge us and invite us to reflect more broadly. Threats that endanger the well-being of the members of our community cannot be dismissed as trivial; they constitute a form of aggression that affects the entire school and, for those who make them, can result in both disciplinary and, if necessary, legal consequences. Their severity is not measured solely by material damage, but by what they reveal about coexistence, mutual respect, and the atmosphere within the school.
In this regard, we especially encourage families to talk with their children about the importance of respecting shared spaces, channeling emotions in constructive ways, and taking responsibility for their own actions. It is precisely in circumstances like these that collaboration between home and school, as well as family conversation and reflection, take on particular importance.
We also urge everyone to remain calm and use information responsibly. The school is addressing this situation with the rigor and dedication it deserves, and any decisions made will always be guided by the well-being of all members of our community. In this regard, we strongly urge you not to spread unconfirmed reports via social media or other unofficial channels, as this may cause unnecessary alarm. To stay informed, please refer only to the school’s official channels, through which any additional information will be communicated in a timely manner.
Sincerely,
San Miguel Arcángel School Administration Team
